UPCYCLING WORKSHOPS 1: FROM PLASTIC BAGS TO WALLETS
During April 2025, the first Upcycling Workshop series organized by DYVÓ focused on exploring the potential of plastic bags as a valuable resource for creating raw materials, specifically textiles. The workshop participants, along with the DYVÓ team, delved into innovative ways to transform plastic bag textiles into functional wallets.
Understanding Plastic Bag Upcycling
Upcycling is the process of repurposing discarded materials to create new products of higher quality or value. Plastic bags, often considered a major environmental hazard due to their non-biodegradable nature, can be upcycled into textiles through a series of creative techniques.
Exploring Textile Production & Bio Textiles
By upcycling plastic bags into textiles, the workshop participants and DYVÓ team were able to explore the versatility and durability of this unique material. Through heating and pressing techniques, the plastic bag textiles were transformed into sturdy and flexible fabric suitable for crafting wallets.
Our guest speaker in this workshop was Hana Zeqa from Fight or Flight Studio in Prishtina. Hana and her team have been exploring new ways of creating biotextiles and 3D printed textiles. Together with Hana, the participants explored other themes related to textiles and the industry in general.
Creating Sustainable Wallets
The focus of the workshop was not only on the creative process but also on the sustainability aspect of upcycling. By repurposing plastic bags into wallets, the participants and DYVÓ team contributed to reducing plastic waste and promoting eco-friendly practices in product design.
Embracing Innovation and Creativity
Through the Upcycling Workshop series, DYVÓ encouraged participants to think outside the box and explore unconventional materials for product development. The process of turning plastic bag textiles into wallets showcased the endless possibilities of upcycling in creating unique and sustainable products.
Overall, the first Upcycling Workshop series held in April 2025 was a success in showcasing the potential of plastic bags as a valuable resource for creating textiles and innovative products like wallets. By embracing creativity, sustainability, and innovation, the workshop participants and DYVÓ team explored a more eco-conscious approach to product design and manufacturing.
