SHEQERAT

As part of the second edition of Open Lab Days 2025, the group “Sheqerat” presented an artistic installation with a powerful awareness-raising message, addressing the issue of plastic waste generated by the use of diabetes management tools.

Their project involved the construction of a sculpture in the shape of the human body, which was filled with plastic insulin pens. These elements were deliberately placed at the points on the body where insulin is typically administered, creating a visual representation that was both realistic and impactful. Through this composition, they succeeded in reflecting the daily life of patients with diabetes, as well as their dependence on these vital tools.

The installation not only highlighted the large amount of insulin used every day, but also brought attention to the considerable volume of plastic waste generated, which ultimately ends up in the environment. By using discarded materials to build a meaningful artwork, the group created a powerful connection between healthcare and environmental impact.

Through this installation, “Sheqerat” aimed to encourage reflection and discussion on the need for more sustainable solutions in the healthcare system, transforming used plastic into a form of art that communicates responsibility, awareness, and empathy.
